Today was the day.

Fumie opened the curtains in her last of Shemar's hotel rooms and took in the view. The sky was bright, the sun high, and at this height Fumie had to look down to see birds fly by, one landing on the windowsill in front of her...For a minute she let herself bask in it. She knew part of the warmth filling her was from the window, but she knew most of her joy came from the fact that she was finally getting her divorce. She smiled as she watched the bird that had landed take off to rejoin the flock. She would know that feeling for herself soon...flying free. Shemar always got room on the top floor and the view was always exquisite...She loved that about her soon to be ex-husband.

Taking a deep breath, she turned, her eyes finding her support. "Zo, you really don't have to be here-," she smiled at him, her feet drawing her closer before her hand slipped into his. No, he didn't have to be here. But he was. He always was. The last week or so for her had been...hell. With Koi in the hospital and Eri not speaking and...everything had fallen apart...not that it was every really together. She'd played her role so well for so long she'd grown to believe her own lies. It was never together. She hadn't been part of a family. She was a hostage. So were her kids...but not anymore. Not after today. And Zori was going to see her through it.

Stretching up on her toes, Fumie let her lips press against his, lingering as she breathed him in and he steadied her, like always. "Thank you."

Fumie moved past him then, taking a manila envelope out of her bag and removing its contents. Placing the divorce papers gingerly on the circular glass dining table, Fumie took a seat behind it. She would wait for him. For the time being she was still his wife and she still knew his schedule. He'd had a meeting with sponsors for one of the few endorsements he'd been able to hold on to. An endorsement she knew fell through because the brand may have gotten wind of a very messy divorce he had looming filled with accusations of domestic violence and child abuse.

As sure as she sat in that chair, he would stop by the hotel bar on the way up to his room, have exactly two drinks, say "fuck it" and buy the bottle and bring it back here to finish before passing out. They had maybe 10 minutes before he showed up and boy, was his day going to get worse.

While she looked out of the window, gazing at everything and nothing, Zori watched her. How relaxed her shoulders were. How her fingertips tapped the window sill lazily. How he could see the corner of her lips lift as he sat on the couch, turning up in amusement at whatever had her attention on the other side of the window. And besides that tiny smile, she’d been standing so still...so still that Zori could only faintly hear her breathing. And what he noticed out of all of that watching? How relaxed she was. In that moment, she was more relaxed than he’d seen her in days. Weeks, actually. With everything going on...Koi, Eri’s therapy, keeping Kidd’s Kids afloat... she’d...been less than herself. At least the “she” she was when she was with him. Stressed wasn’t really the word for it. Drained? Maybe absent? Zori had been doing more talking at her than he did to her...and he understood completely. Life hadn’t been easy for her, not that it was ever promised to be. He could tell it had been weighing on her more than he, even seeing what he’d seen of the world, could possibly imagine. But things were changing. Shit was shifting. Because finally, she was done. Flat out done. And maybe, just maybe? The load she couldn’t help but carry would be lighter. Now that she was doing this, not just for her kids, but for herself. Divorcing him…

Her sudden movement made Zori rise from the hotel couch, his hands going into the pockets of his black slacks to avoid pulling at the designer v-neck that Fumie’d made him buy (that was a waste of fucking money in his opinion). But he’d done it...along with equally overpriced blazer and the shiny, Ferra-whatever shoes too. Usually he didn’t give a damn about brands. But tonight, Fumie wanted them to look their best. They were celebrating, weren’t they?

“Yeah I do. You know that.” His voice matched the softness of hers as she walked to him, her hand slipping into his. He squeezed her hand lightly, his fingers caressing the back of her hand as he watched her. He’d obviously been doing that a lot lately. Studying her face. The slightest change in the curve of her eyebrows, the slightest twitch in her jaw. He watched it all...and he’d never tell her why...but it didn’t take much to figure him out. Because at the slightest crack...the first sign of her breaking...he needed to be there to catch her.

“I don’t mind…” He said, his stoic gaze on her changing into a small grin as she lifted herself to kiss him. He lowered his head, their lips meeting...and lingered, his hand going to her back and pressing her against him. And like usual, he felt her melt into his embrace.

He released her as she walked past him, headed to the glass dining room table in the hotel suite. The suite that Zori found out that Fumie had a slight history...considering that this was where Shemar brought most of the women he’d been cheating on her with through the years. It was nice, Zori could admit it that as his steel gray eyes swept the room. Spacious. And after “this” was over, he was going to check-in to the hotel with Fumie and spend the rest of the night making better memories than any of the ones that she was about to get rid of from the almost twenty year marriage she survived with Shemar. Because it was ending tonight...

He watched her sigh heavily, placing the divorce papers on the table, sitting behind it, waiting for Shemar. Waiting for everything to begin...and end.

Yeah I do. You know that. She did know that. In the days since prom night Zori had been there. Even before then, in his reluctance to fall into their relationship, he had always been there. Listening to her vent about Shemar's bullshit, helping her brainstorm through issues at Kidd's Kids, holding her together through...all of this. Zori was better than she deserved and she was grateful for him everyday. She was happy with him everyday they got to be together. Fumie had never experienced support like what Zori provided and she didn't know how she'd gotten so lucky. In her wildest dreams she never would have imagined that flirting on a hot day at the post office would end up with them here: serving her husband with divorce papers with her boyfriend on standby.

Fumie smiled as she moved past him to sit, her hand smoothing over the lapel of his blazer. A blazer he made very clear he DID NOT want to buy, but Fumie was celebrating. She had been with one of her children every waking (and sleeping) moment in the last ten days. Today, Devyn was looking after Eri. Dhonny was giving Koi a much needed break from her hovering and Fumie was going to get shit done. Dressed to fucking kill, she was going to have Shemar sign these papers (or not, didn't matter). After, she was going to get drunk with an equally well-dressed, man that was not her ex-husband and do unspeakably filthy things with him while she pulled him out of all of the overpriced labels he was so against.

Today was her day. The drama and despair and disappointment was taking a 24-hour rest and she was going to be FUCKING high on life for every single minute of it. Starting...right now. Fumie sat up straight in her seat as a key card sounded in the main door of the suite. He was early. All the better to be honest. Fumie couldn't help the lopsided smirk that formed on her lips as she greeted her tormentor of twenty years.

"Hello, Shemar."

The D'Usse was the shit if he did say so himself... and that's the motherfucking reason why he bought the whole bottle from the bar. They weren't doing shit with it anyway as half the empty pockets at the bar couldn't afford it in the first place. Oh, but he could. And real talk? Half the little niggas at that bar couldn't do what he had and they were half his age. He still had bankroll even though he retired from the game early. Still had lifts. Still had the stamina of a 20-year-old on Viagra (which he didn't fucking use no matter what the gossip magazines said...lying asses). They were too busy working for the life he already had.

Shemar smirked at himself in the reflective metal of the elevator doors as he uncorked the bottle and took another swig, straight. He let the liquid slide down his throat, smooth. And he thought about the sexy as slit that he slipped his suite number to at the bar...right underneath her boyfriend's ignorant ass nose. Shit...

Tonight was going to be a good night. New pussy, no problems. Well, no problems that concerned him. His jaw set as thoughts about the bullshit he called "family life" threatened to dampen his mood. Wifey had texted him a couple of times that day about his scheduled appearances. He'd been a "good little husband" and showed up to every one of them. See? He could be a team player when he wanted to be. But all that other shit...like the bullshit she'd written him about Koi weeks ago? Nah, that wasn't for him. So his son had thrown a fucking temper tantrum and had ended up in the hospital. That didn't sound like a "Shemar" issue. Fumie dealt with it like she always did. And whether she wanted to admit it or not, she was still playing the role she was trained to play, whether Shemar was around or not. He kind of liked their "new arrangement" anyway. And by new arrangement he meant staying the hell away from her (like she'd told him to) and mind his damn business. It worked for them...

He thumbed his nose as the elevator doors opened to his suite's floor, his other hand sliding down the front of his suit coat. He exited, his steps practically memorized. He'd practically memorized the number of steps to the suite that had become his second home long before Fumie had threatened him with a restraining order and banned him from entering the house HE owned...HIS MONEY bought. His money bought this room too...and the pussy he'd BEE bringing back to it. And tonight wasn't going to be any different, especially as he knew that he'd be getting a visit from bitch from the bar.

His card went into the slot and...the lights were on? He could've sworn he turned those shits...fuck.

Hello, Shemar. Even with surprise, annoyance and a little bit of rage in his veins, Shemar had to chuckle as he stepped into the room.

"Hey, wifey." His eyes trailed the length of her body, stopping at the the smirk on her lips.

"Long time, no see..."

"Baby, if I saw you in hell it still wouldn't be long enough-," Fumie smiled fully then, the realization that this was really happening hitting her fully. She wanted to remember everything about this moment. The half empty bottle of D'Usse in his right hand (called it). The Breitling watch she'd bought him for their 5th anniversary back when they were a real couple. The way his expression darkened with her snarky reply to his bullshit. She wanted to capture it all so that she could pull this exact moment from the memory banks on her dark days...this was about to get good.

Made better because she knew this wouldn't end the way he thought it was going to. Not with Zori behind her...waiting. In the past few days, whenever Shemar was brought up in conversation between them, although rare, she could feel the rage roll off of him in waves. She could feel it now and she didn't even have to look back at him to know it. Zori was eager for Shemar to show his ass and give him the opportunity to let him put those very expensive Ferragamos dead in it.

"I brought you a gift," she said, pushing the divorce papers to the other side of the table. She watched intently as he came to the table, waiting for the exact moment for him to read, "Petition. For. Divorce...I'm setting you free, Shemar."

The second he heard the electronic click of the door’s lock disengaging, Zori went rigid. His back straightened, his nostrils flared, and his fists clenched. Because he already knew that Shemar Kidd was entering the room. Not that Zori hadn’t been waiting for this moment. No, he’d been waiting for THIS for months and it wasn’t because he’d been dating Shemar’s soon-to-be ex-wife. He’d lost the last shit that he’d had to give about that after what happened with Koi on prom night. It was stupid to be concerned about breaking up a man’s family when he didn’t give a damn about it. No, it was the night that he and Fumie were together for the first time and he’d seen the bruises covering her body. Zori knew it then. Either she finally got away from Shemar...or he was going to kill him. And that was the first time in a long time that he wanted to harm another human being. It shook him...unsteadied him. The rage that he hadn’t felt in years was back with a vengeance, which never ended well. So, even though the inevitable was about to happen, Zori prayed silently that he could get through it without crushing Shemar’s windpipe…

Long time, no see Yeah, it had been. And the time away had been exactly what Fumie needed. No drama, no lying...no bruises. And a very appreciated lack of Shemar Kidd. Looked like he could follow directions and keep his sorry ass away from her and her children after all. Zori’s jaw hardened as he moved to stand behind Fumie, his hand squeezing her shoulder quickly in support. His eyes never left Shemar. And he couldn’t lie, it felt good as hell to see the ripple of a frown on Shemar’s face at Zori’s intimate touch. Zori smirked in response, his face quickly melting back into a stoic, unreadable stare.

Fumie didn’t waste a second with pleasantries as she launched right into the reason why they were there. Divorce. Plain and simple. As she finished, the room fell into silence. Shemar’s fingers touched the divorce papers like something dirty, pulling them towards himself, slowly. He took his time flipping through the pages of the document, smirking and smiling in amusement. Zori got it. Shemar wanted to make this as painful as he could now that things were on his time...which was a damn shame that he thought so, because nothing in that room was his...the least of those being his “time”.

“Wow…” Shemar said, finally looking up from the papers that the probably didn’t even read. He pulled out a chair at the dining room table and sat, crossing his arms over his chest. He slouched in the seat, staring directly at Fumie as his fingertips tapped the glass.

“...so this is what you’ve been up too, Wifey?” He chuckled, licking his lips as his eyes burned into his estranged wife.

“Got yourself a new outfit...a new guard dog...” Finally, he looked at Zori and sucked his teeth. Zori stared at the door behind him, refusing to make eye contact.

“...I see you cleaned his dusty ass up, too. Cute. You been fuckin’ him in my bed, bitch?”

Zori chucked dryly as he nodded to himself, blood thudding between his ears. He knew when he was being baited. Shemar was trying HARD to get what he wanted. A reaction. One that with all of his effort, Zori was trying to avoid. But Shemar was making it difficult as hell.

“While you laughing, you could be doing something useful like pouring me a drink, nigga.” Shemar spat, nodding to the bottle he’d placed on the table beside him. Zori finally looked over at him, his eyes narrowed so tightly that they were slits. His lip curled as he watched Shemar nod to the bottle again.

“Does your country bumpkin ass understand English? Or did your Mama fail to fuck your way to the next grade? My DRINK, nigga!”

That was it.

“Fuck it…” He muttered, taking two steps before his large hand shot across the table, grabbing Shemar’s collar. He yanked him forward, pulling him out of his chair, his upper body hovering over the top of the table.

Fumie instinctively leaned into Zori's touch as she finished serving Shemar his freedom papers. She hadn't meant to throw them in Shemar's face...much. She watched the disgust etch across his face and she wasn't sure if it was because of Zori or that he was finally getting the papers she'd so often threatened. He should have been thrilled. No more of her nagging, no more of those annoying little crumbsnatchers he barely considered children. He was free to be a single man in that nightmare infested house that he loved reminding her he paid for. He was free...and more importantly, she was. No more temper tantrum, no more cleaning up Shemar's messes, no more mistaking her son's girlfriends for her husband's playthings, and no more having to find a daughter who so feared her father she hid when he was home. She should have done this eons ago.

Wow...He was getting started. Fumie's smile grew wider and she even chuckled as Shemar went on about "what she'd been up to", ending by asking if she was fucking him in a bed that they almost never shared; certainly not enough to call it his. Zori gave a chuckle, but she could tell he was not as amused as she was. Fumie was used to it. The goading, the pushing. She wasn't going to give him the reaction he was looking for and her smile was telling him that. So he shifted focus. While you laughing...

Fumie sighed, her smile faltering for the first time. She was just so over it. The back and forth with Shemar. The dick measuring contest he got in anytime there was another penis in the room. The insecurity was honestly ridiculous at his big age and she was just so...oop. Shemar got the reaction he was hoping for as Zori reached across the table taking his collar in his hands and pulling him nearly over it. Fumie didn't know if she was just so used to violence or if this week had been so traumatizing that she was just numb to all of it, but...she didn't flinch. She did sigh again, raising both of her hands and pushing back from the table.

"Wait-," she stood, reaching between the men for the bottle of D'Usse that had become the new topic of conversation. "Before the two of you get into whatever this is..." She carried it to the small bar enclave close to the door, speaking as she walked.

"Don't you get tired of fighting, Shemar? Don't you get sick of the arguing, and the grandstanding, and the drama of it all?" She flipped one of the snifters over on the mirrored bartop and poured the drink just how Shemar liked it when he wanted to sip. A little more than three shots, but just shy of four. "I know I do." She drank then, letting something much strong than the vodka she was used to burn in her throat and spread to her chest. She didn't flinch as she finished the glass, turning her attention back to both men and leaning casually against the bar.

"You all can continue. I'll wait." They both stared at her. Didn't they understand? She was done with this part of her life. "Oh, I'm sorry. Did you-," she chuckled, the confusion on Shemar's face almost adorable. "Did you think that was for you?" She pointed at the empty glass in her hand and offered a short laugh.

"Sweetheart, no-," Fumie grew bored with this whole thing by the minute. "The only thing I'm giving you tonight is that document and I wish you'd go ahead and sign it. We have places to be."

They had him fucked entirely the fuck up. That was the conclusion that Shermar had come to as he hovered over the dining room table, the fist of the gorilla that his wife was fucking wrinking his Gucci. They broke into his goddamn hotel room, served him with divorce papers (which didn’t mean SHIT to him), and now he was hovering over the top of the table by his shirt? Yeah, completely fucked up. And what was worse?

“What I know you BETTER THE FUCK DO is let my shit go!” Shemar growled, his glare meeting Zori’s completely blank stare. Who the hell was Fumie dating? A serial killer? Shemar tried to pull himself out of the vice-like grip Zori had on his shirt, his temper flaring every moment that this aggressive ass, mute fuck held him. He tried to swivel his head to look at Fumie, but it was no good. He wasn’t getting this cheap motherfucker’s filthy (and unmanicured) hand off of himself unless Fumie got involved.

“FUMIE...” Shemar’s voice thundered as he moved to grab Zori’s wrist…but the slightest narrowing of his eyes an tightening of his grip told Shemar that touching this nigga probably wasn’t the best idea…

“...get THIS MOTHERFUCKER OFF-” The fuck? Was he hearing shit? Because what he thought he heard between the sound of his scuffling to break free was Fumie’s heels walking close enough to him to call off this big bear ass fucker (he was DEFINITELY pressing charges), her “wait” loosening Zori’s grip. But what he really heard was the sound of his D’Usse bottle leaving the table, Fumie’s steps retreating as she went to the bar. Finally. Some fucking semblance of the wifey that he knew. Cooperative. Able to follow directions. Able to back down when shit is going to FUCKING far. But if that were the case, why the HELL was he still leaning over the fucking TABLE?

Don't you get tired of fighting, Shemar... Excuse him? Fighting? The only one who was agressing in this FUCKING hotel room was the nigga she’d fucked into submission. Because even though his eyes were still trained on Shemar, Zori was definitely listening to every word that left Fumie’s mouth. Well, at least that was one of them. Because none of the shit she was saying pertained to Shemar. None of it. Shemar did what he fucking did because SHEMAR willed it. Because he made it so. And if she had been the same wife that he’d married, that he’d had kids with, that he’d TRAINED, she would’ve known that. But, no. This was “new bitch”. Fumie 2.0. And Fumie 2.0 liked to hear herself speak. And save for her voice, the only other sound (besides her the stupid soliloquy she was apparently trying to feed Shemar) was the clink of glasses at the bar.

“All that talk…” He wheezed out, Zori’s grip retightening.

“And I still don’t have a drink in my hand.” Okay, well she was playing nice enough to answer his request for a drink. So, maybe he’d play nice and NOT get her gutter butt boyfriend locked up for putting his HANDS on him.

The glass clinked as Fumie lightly drummed her nails against it, a light ripple of laughter coming from her as Shemar looked at her. His head snapped, well pulled to the side as he watched her point to the empty glass...and to a drink that had never been for him in the first place. His face set in a hard stare as she laughed at him. Laughed at him! Laughing because she’d poured a drink for herself. Laughing at his ignorance in thinking she’d do ANYTHING for him. Laughing because this shit between he and Zori was entertaining. And then asking him AGAIN.

The only thing I'm giving you tonight is that document and I wish you'd go ahead and sign it. We have places to be.

The fucking papers. Shemar scoffed, yanking himself violently from Zori’s hold, the wife stealing ass nigga not even phased by his movement.

“I’m not signing SHIT, Fumie.” He spat, yanking his suit coat to straight out the wrinkles that Zori had caused.

“And if you even fucking think that these dramatics...this SHIT…” Shemar’s fists hit the table where the divorce papers sat. He gathered them in his hand, tossing them at her.

“...you have another thing GOT DAMN coming…”

She was having a little fun. Knowing her ex was being tortured with the thought of losing control of her, watching Shemar struggle against Zori's grip on his precious suit, knowing she could have Zo snap him in two if she asked real nice...it felt good, but not as good as she thought it might. Even as she teased him, his simple ass sure that the drink she'd poured was for him, she thought about ways she might push it. She wanted under his skin and this wasn't it. She wanted to leave here with Zori and have Shemar fume about it until they saw one another again in court (because she knew when she came he wasn't signing those divorce papers). She wanted him to hurt the way she did, but she had a heart so she knew that wasn't possible. So, she would settle for the next best thing. She wanted him to lose.

She watched as Zori finally released him and Shemar tried to straighten himself back out. He did the smart thing and ignored Zori (he saw where that had gotten him) and addressed Fumie's request for a signature. Honestly, she had been more than fair in this iteration of the petition. They would of course have to talk terms in mediation, but all Fumie wanted from him (on paper) was her kids and their name. She would continue to be a Kidd because that's what her children were, it was the name on her foundation. Outside of that Shemar could have it all...all that she left him anyway.

Knowing this was coming, Fumie had been a very busy girl. She'd spent quite a bit of time taking his name off foundation information (that had been for show anyway), making sure the savings in her children's names couldn't be fucked with, and ensuring her own financial freedom by changing the passwords on all of their joint accounts and several of his (not that she knew them to begin with). She had also been making sizable deposits into an offshore account in his name for a little rainy day fund should he want to get real ugly.

Shemar would have enough to live exactly the way he had been, for at least 6 more months and it might have been longer if he'd just signed, but...predictably, he was opting for mess. Her eyes lazily followed the divorce petition as he threw it in her direction and it landed at her feet. She sighed again, shaking her head. "Okay-," she said with a shrug. Her voice was calm, the exact opposite of the rage that had been in his as he told her she had another thing coming...so did he.

She moved toward him then, feeling the anger roll off him in waves as she kept past him, stopping in front of Zo. "I'm bored," she said with a smirk. Her fingers traced up his chin before cupping his face and pulling it down to meet hers. Fumie couldn't lie, watching Zo yank her shitty ex across a table had her far more interested in seeing where the night was going than spending anymore time playing cat and mouse with Shemar. She kissed him with the building anticipation for more later, a moan leaving her as her tongue danced against his. Yup, confirmed.

"I'm bored with him. We can go-," she let her hand fall into his then and began for the door.

Everything had gone just about how Zori knew it would. Not like he'd been hopeful or positive about any of this. He'd only promised Fumie that he'd be supportive...and that if she let him be there, he'd let everything happen that needed to happen. Whatever she needed to get him...get Shemar from underneath her skin. That had been what Zori was hopeful for. What he'd wanted for Fumie from the very beginning. From the moment he'd seen how Shemar treated her, how much he didn't see her. But Zori did. And he always would...especially now, her words rooted in so much strength and finality that he saw Shemar flinch when she said them.

I'm bored...

Zori's steady, but unbothered stare at Shemar broke as she said this, coming to stand in front of him. Their eyes met, speaking different languages but the same words. His told her that he was proud of her. That even though he didn't think this meeting was what she needed, she knew herself better than he had. This was her mic drop. Her "fuck it"...and after all of the work she'd done to get to this place, she'd needed it so that she'd know...her kids would know...it's over.

Her eyes? They were saying something entirely different, her fingers tracing his jaw line, then his chin, cupping it as she brought his face to hers. Her kiss wasn't a surprise...it matched everything he'd seen in her eyes. She was done...and their time of being "in clothes" around each other was quickly coming to a close. Zori heard THAT message loud and clear, her tongue twisting with his as she moaned into his mouth. Out of the sheer decency that his Mama taught him, the hand that had found its way to her waist stayed there, resisting the move to cup her ass...which Fumie knew happened when she kissed him like that...

Zori smirked at her quickly as their kiss broke, subtly licking the taste of her from his bottom lip. The only request Zori had for that night? That they'd finish that kiss in the elevator on the way to the car Fumie had waiting...

Quickly he gave a nod to her words, clasping her hand as it slid into...oh yeah. Shemar was there, wasn't he? And apparently he was speaking...

"...gone kiss him MUH-FUCKIN' ass in front of me like that!?" The anger in his voice was the only way he showed his displeasure in Fumie's decision to kiss Zori in front of her very nearly ex-husband. It didn't surprise Zori that he didn't make an moves to stop a kiss like that from happening again. It wasn't hard to see that he wasn't interested in Zori moppin' the table with his goddamned face again...

"THIS AIN'T OVER, bitch. NOT in THE LEAST BIT!" Shemar shouted again, more threats spilling out of him. Threats about taking the kids, taking the money, taking the houses...all the shit Fumie had already made sure Shemar would never be able to do. Zori looked down at Fumie, smiling as they shared that secret between them. A secret that Shemar would find out soon enough. Zori lifted their joined hands to his lips, kissing the skin of her hand as they left the room together, Zori closing the door on her past and walking towards their future.
