The boredom was real. Koi couldn't say that he'd ever been entertained in Study Hall. The mandatory quiet and only the sound of pages turning
and lead scratching on paper. The teacher who facilitated the sessions at the front table of the library that was more interested in his cellphone
screen than helping students...study. And even though the teacher had his cellphone, the restriction on any type of electronic device during Study
Hall hours. This was some bullshit. The only part that made any of this tolerable was, of course, the fact that he had Study Hall with
Devyn...who was actually spending her time studying instead of talking to him.
A soft sigh escaped him as he tapped his pencil on the top of the table, his British Literature book lying open pointlessly in front of him. He'd been
eeking out a "B", thanks to Devyn and he wasn't really sure if he cared if that grade dropped to a "C" due to the fact that he was no where near
prepared for their next test. Deyvn would be, that was for sure with the way her nose hadn't left the pages of her book since they'd walked through
the door. She was such a fucking nerd...it was cute though. He loved that about her. How she was amazingly beautiful, gave body from the second she
left her bed...or his bed in the morning and she was still smart as fuck. When it came to getting cuffed, he won the lottery. One of the best had his
heart...
Smiling at his thoughts, he leaned back in his chair, his hand going out to play with one of her curls. Almost as if she read his mind, she moved her
hair over her shoulder without even looking away from her text book...unsuccessfully hiding a smile. He sucked his teeth as he leaned over his
notebook that STILL didn't have study notes for his Lit test, his pencil moving quickly as he scribbled a quick note.
Quote:
so i guess a nigga gotta entertain himself
He ripped off the sheet of paper and placed it boldly over the page Devyn had been reading.
Devyn attempted to focus as her thoughts drifted from prom and back to her British Lit textbook. She had a test for this stupid class next week and
then she would be finished with it. The final was only for anybody with a "C" or lower and she was aceing...Koi wasn't. And he didn't seem to be
trying to change that, his book staring more at him than he was staring at it. He'd been in his own world since they sat down and he knew better. He
knew he needed to focus on getting his missing assignments in from his suspension. It was a stipulation to the agreement he'd made to attend
prom. Koi hadn't lied when he said he was taking her. She didn't know how and she didn't really care to ask, but Fumie had pulled some strings
and her son was going to prom with his girlfriend. Devyn was getting her wish. If the kid sat down and got his work done! Lahainaluna wasn't
a pushover about the agreement and she wasn't letting him go if he didn't meet requirements. Hell, she didn't really want him to go at all and here
Koi was trying to give her what she wanted.
And he was not going to pull her into it. A sigh announced Koi's boredom which meant he would start messing with her in 5...4...3...2-Nope.
Without even looking at him Devyn pulled her hair over one shoulder and out of his reach. She couldn't help her smile, listening as he sucked his
teeth in annoyance and returned to his textbook. Good. He needed to get it together if they were going to...what was this? Devyn chuckled as she read
his note. He wanted to be entertained. Picking up her pen she scribbled a response to him, folding it once before she finally looked at him and passed
it back.
Quote:
Nope you could let that Brit Lit book entertain you...
She was having none of his shit today. He needed to focus.
I'm taking my time.
I'm doing it right.

She wanted to ignore him, huh? Koi wasn't going to make it easy for her...especially when he was so bored he could practically smell the "loud" that
he should've been skipping out on study hall to smoke. He was missing out... But he knew what being in study hall meant...and THAT meant a
hellova lot more than weed did. Weeks ago, he wouldn't have admitted that to himself, but now it was more than true and he would've told anybody that
asked him. Study hall meant passing his classes for graduation. Passing meant Prom and Prom meant keeping Devyn happy. And that shit meant more than
good ass weed and boredom...
But Devyn didn't need to know that, a smirk on Koi's face as he watched her read his note, scribble a reply and send it back to him, her eyes meeting
his as she did. See? Paying her man a little attention wasn't too much of a damn task, was it? He wasn't asking for much. Just a short distraction
from the shit he wasn't studying in the first place. And then they would...
Really? Koi screwed up his face, his lips pursing the way they did when he was on the brink of annoyance. What did his bae NOT get about
about the cycle of boredom that was studying? Yeah, it may have been necessity, but couldn't they take a slight break? Her note back to him said "no".
Quote:
you tryin' it! i'm bored babe...
His hand slid the note back to her, breaking her concentration as she'd gone back to whatever she'd been reading in her literature book. Her
expression wasn't entertained as she looked at him, crumbling quickly as she saw Koi's face, his lip poked out, wearing the saddest eyes he could
muster.
They weren't doing this today! Koi had always been able to get her to do whatever he asked. She might have given him a hard time about it sometimes,
but he knew all he had to do was ask and she would do...before. Before she would have faked some kind of illness asked the proctor if Koi
could escort her to the infirmary and they would have skipped this bullshit hour and a half all together. Now that prom was a real possibility? She
wanted it. She really, really wanted to go to prom. And she would only go with Koi. Koi could only go if he got caught up and that was just
what he was going to do. She sometimes felt like she was being selfish, but really, him finishing high school was a must anyway. Why not get rewarded
for it?
She wanted him to focus so she set an example, her face returning to her book after she passed him her response. She loved him, which was why she knew
he would be a distraction if she let him. She wasn't having it...which was why she only glanced at his reaction to her note. And she refused to let
her need to please him get the best of her. Koi scribbled a response to her passing the note back. How was it that he could throw a tantrum on paper?
Devyn bit her lip attempting to quell a smile at the thought. He was cute. Especially as she finally looked at him, trying to maintain a serious
expression as he gave her puppy dog eyes and begged to be petted. Ugh!
She rolled her eyes a quiet giggle drawing the attention of the students around them, however briefly. Fine! Fine. She would give him ten minutes. Ten
minutes of free time before he really had to get to work.
Quote:
10 minutes. I mean it then you really have to study kid. I'm looking forward to gala pt. 2 after prom
Devyn smiled as she passed the note back, watching him read it and winking as he looked back at her. She still wasn't convinced Koi was super into
going to prom, but she would promise to make it worth his while. It would definitely be a night to remember.
I'm taking my time.

10 minutes? That was what Devyn called a “study break”? Apparently, he and his babe had totally different ideas about what the word
“break” meant. Because how he was thinking? Ten minutes wasn’t even near enough time to fit in a smoke break, a nap and a quickie in the
girl’s bathroom. Tomato, tomahto…
...I’m looking forward to gala pt. 2 after prom. There it was, the “p” word. Well, the p-word that made Koi hesitate before he thought
about his reply to her. Not that he had a problem with prom...at all. It was what Devyn wanted. It was the reason why he was sitting in that boring
ass room during boring ass study hall when he could’ve been otherwise focused on Devyn’s “p-word”. But it was obviously her thing and as she
so kindly reminded him, after prom would be his.
He chuckled and bit his lip, memories of his mother’s gala coming back to him. That had been a good time, a fantastic moment between he and Devyn.
Even though they hadn’t been anywhere near what they were now to each other, it had been the closest. They’d spent the whole night after the gala,
wrapped up in each other...loving each other before he could even think the word, much less speak it. He wondered, even as he sat next to her,
grinning like the completely in love idiot he knew he was, if he’d known it then...how completely fucked he was. Because without a doubt? Devyn
could’ve asked him to make gold out of shit and he would’ve asked her what karat. Prom was more than just doing it because it kept Devyn happy. It
was because she wanted it. She wanted to be normal with him. And after everything he’d put her through in the past couple of years he’d spent
fighting her, he’d gladly give her normal…
Quote:
Gala the sequel? you wrote the magic words, babe. got your dress yet
Did he care about her dress? Nah. She could’ve shown up naked and he would’ve...damn, she really could’ve shown up naked, though. He laughed
quietly at his thoughts as he passed the sheet of paper back to her.
Gala Part 2. She didn't know how much of a good idea that was given that they'd almost made a baby the last time, but she knew she needed to
keep Koi interested...She just didn't believe him. Or...maybe the problem was that she did? She'd asked him more than a few times in the past week if
he was sure about prom. His response had never been anything overly excited and he never actually told her yes. It was always a 'anything you want,
babe' or a kiss to shut her up about it. He wasn't into it. She knew he wasn't into it, but he was doing it for her anyway because he loved her. She
smiled again like the drunk in love idiot that she was at the thought of Koi Kidd doing something he didn't want to do. A year ago if you'd have told
her he'd be bending to her every whim she might have laughed herself into a coma. Now? Now, he loved her.
She was brought out of her thoughts by a light nudge as he dropped their note in front of her. A quiet giggle left her as she read. He was so
predictable. She shook her head, scribbling her response to his question.
Quote:
Nope Mi and I are going shopping tomorrow. Maybe I'll stop by your place after and show you what I buy to go under the it...
She smiled at him as she passed the note back, their eyes connecting. God, he was everything to her. Koi was so sweet and everything felt so
different now that they were...them. Honest, open, out, together. Devyn bit her lip, an attempt to quell her smile to a smirk before she
silently called to him, her index finger curling as she leaned in for him to kiss her. It was short. Sweet. Addicting, as usual and would probably
lead to a place neither of them could go in study hall. A fact made obvious as a throat cleared from the front of the study area.
Oops.
I'm taking my time.
I'm doing it right.

Sliding her note back towards him, their eyes met...and voiceless words passed between them like they always did. I'm happy. I trust you. You mean
everything to me. I love you... And like it usually did, Koi's breathing slowed, the corners of his lips curled into a soft smile...and his heart
sped up, beating like crazy until they turned away from each other. That was love, he guessed and it could be...overwhelming. It could swallow you
whole and you'd enjoy every fucking minute of it. It neve stopped amazing him how much, just months ago, that feeling that he felt when he looked in
Devyn's eyes would've have scared the shit out of him. Because he hadn't been ready for it. He hadn't known...how good it actually could be. Was that
becaues the only example of love was his "live a lie" parents that sold a good story to People Magazine but couldn't keep it together long enough to
stay out of US Weekly? Probably... But he didn't need examples like that anymore. Not when he and Devyn were making their own.
He smirked again as he read her note. She and Miyu were going shopping for her dress? The only surprise was that they were JUST going...even though
prom was a couple of weeks away. He was more than sure that they'd been, but knowing his babe...she wanted the perfect dress. For the perfect
night...with a nigga that was just praying he could stay perfect long enough to keep her Prom Night...perfect.
And there it was again...another incentitive to get Koi more excited about Prom. His eyebrows raised as he read the last part of her note, giving
Devyn a side glance as she bit her lip, fighting a teasing smile. She signaled for him and he didn't hesitate as he leaned forward, pecking her lips
lightly...and lingered close to her in hopes of another...
...which wasn't happening as someone threw a cloud's worth of shade into he and Devyn's moment. He sucked his teeth as he pulled away from her,
fighting the need to throw a look in the direction of the teacher that was overseeing their study period. He'd learned to keep his repsonses to a
minimum these days if he wanted to stay in good graces enough to see Prom.
"Hater..." He whispered as he pulled Devyn's note towards him again, scribbling a reply.
Quote:
later...
They could finish what they'd started in boring ass Study Hall after they got out. Their flirting? Yeah, they could keep that going for a little long
as buy Koi's watch, he had a few more minutes of slack off time.
Quote:
and about that show and tell...maybe you should buy a couple. you know ya nigga likes options...
Devyn was a trouble maker. She liked to put it on Koi a lot, but she started a lot of the shit they ended up getting into. Exhibit A, trying to start
a make out session in the middle of study hall. She giggled hearing his mumbled hater as she turned away from him. This was a good time to
get back to work. Koi needed to focus on studying and Devyn needed to focus on getting him through studying. They had shit to finish if he wasn't
trying to make himself a liar...and she really hoped he wasn't. She knew Koi hated "old them". The "them" where his wants came first. The
"them" where Devyn didn't say what she felt. She knew he was trying to make up for that (something he didn't have to do) and he was using prom to do
it. So she was really hoping he would commit to doing what he needed to do to see through his promise.
She looked up from her book as he passed a reply to her last note. A quiet giggle left her before she wrote back her response.
Quote:
How about this...study. and when I come over later I can quiz you. And for every answer you get right I'll take something off. I probably won't be
wearing much to begin with...
Devyn smirked as she passed the note back, her teeth catching her bottom lip as she read the note and looked back at her. If he could be persuaded
into feeling prom, then he would be persuaded into studying so that they could go.
