Ace needed a distraction. Something - anything - to get his mind of all his so called 'demons'. What demons? Well, his dad thought it was everything: the drugs, the sex, the money, the cards. His dad didn't know a damn thing about him. He didn't fucking care about all of those things - hey, they were only a plus. The single thing that Ace cared about was winning. The feeling of everything being in his control - people fearing his abilities - and winning hand after hand after hand was what really made him go crazy. Sex and drugs didn't matter if he could just win - but he knew that the money was what really made him turn into the giant fuck-up that he was. If he could just avoid the tables for a little while....maybe his mind would forget all about everything else, which was much easier said than done. He was practically fucking insane! He had tried to exercise, tried to read - all of which had left him even more hungry for the cards. His skin itched and his back ached and his brain - fuck, don't even get him started on his headache. Rehab hadn't fixed anything.

Having decided that standing around going insane, Ace decided to do something with himself....even if that 'something' was to go to some run-down video store to rent 21 again. Even if he had watched that movie a thousand times, and even if he did resent how inaccurate the film was in portraying card counting, it was still one of his favorite movies. Walking around the bookstore in nothing too fancy, he wandered the empty rows, his mind not necessarily set upon finding the damn movie. His brain was full of useless thoughts - and not to mention math exercises - and he didn't want to go back home to do nothing. In the time he had spent at home the past few weeks, he could have made hundreds of thousands. But...he had promised his dad that he would try to stay away, and he loved his dad. He wanted to try to be that boy again, the little kid who was selfless and smart. Now....now he was just some fucked-up asshat.

Taking his steps lightly, he saw managed to stumble into the romance section. Completely alone, he picked up the first film that caught his attention: Pride and Prejudice. God, what a terribly boring movie and story. Snickering, he turned it over, skimming over the details. How could this be anyone's favorite movie?

It wasn't that Ace was ridiculing the movie - really, he didn't give a shit about the book or the movie - it was just that he was alone felt that the thought of him watching that movie had made him almost chuckle. Having had the strange life he had, rarely got to do things that most normal people do. Watching movies, going on dates, fucking buying food at a grocery store were all odd and new activities to him. So, when he had thought he was alone in the tiny store, he decided to pick it up. The memory of him reading the book was faintly there - it had been required reading - and he had hated it. Not so much because of the sheer romance of it all, but because of it being required. Maybe the movie wasn't as bad? And he was slightly tired of watching 21 for what seemed the hundredth time that month, so why not take a look at the movie?

Too bad he wasn't alone. Jumping slightly at the sound of a voice - a slightly accented one - he turned to face a rather bright colored girl, a shock of red hair surrounding her face. She was finely dressed and appeared to like the movie, thinking that Ace was ridiculing it. Ah, she had made a bad assumption, but he didn't really care. Flipping the movie back over, he shook his head, "No. You're not right, really. I've never seen the movie....so I can't judge it." Ace didn't get angry or mad. He never really did, nor did he have a reason to be. He had always been calm and quiet, even if it made him seem like some sort of emotionless asshole...even if sort of was. The corners of his lips twitching up oh-so-slightly, he glanced at her again, "Picked it up out of sheer curiosity. Needed something to keep my mind busy. I didn't care much for the books, nor do I care much for books in general...." He shrugged his shoulders slightly, letting the sentence drift off. Ace couldn't operate very socially without much help from outside forces, and he wasn't in the mood to try right now. She had chosen to talk to him, so she would have to lead the conversation.

Pushing up the sleeves of his sweater, he furrowed his brows. Shit, he didn't do stuff like this. "I'm Ace, if it matters to you. Probably not, but it's always nice to know someone's name," he added the last part with a slight snicker. Fuck, he was a hypocrite. He could recall thousands of people he had slept with that he didn't know their names. Oh well.

He kept an indifferent expression as she flounced away, her hips swaying along. Ah, so she was....friendly. Not that he blamed her, really. The girl wasn't bad looking, exactly, and she seemed to have an energetic personality, so why not put it to use? Ace too had been somewhat of a complete man-whore and druggie and it was the best and worst moments of his short life. It was so convenient. You made money, fucked, drank, got high and repeat. Forget about all of those responsibilities and the fact that you were practically destroying your body and be happy. But....it had too many draw-backs. There was the fact that you might get caught, might catch something, and that you had nothing to rely on. If you never learned anyone's name, than who could you call when you're in jail or half-dead in the middle of an alley after trying to talk more money than should have? Sure, it was fucking great to have no strings attached....but after having lived like that for years, the idea had been practically forever shut away somewhere in his brain. But that didn't mean that it wasn't.....gone. No strings attached was still there.

Stubbornly silent? He was just a quiet man in nature, that's all. A good cards player never reveals his emotions, and that practice had been implanted into his system for the rest of his lifetime. And he didn't really like to talk much - even as a kid. When his mom died, it had sealed his mouth of completely, having to be there and strong for his dad, who was even more broken than Ace had been. Not to mention, explanations were just a waste of breath and words when he could just do something. And showing anger? No fucking way. Unless he was higher than a kite, he was perfectly calm and collected. Like they said, actions speak louder than words.

So she wanted to toy with him? Fine. She could go ahead and Ace would pretend to be the usual men, infatuated with the so-called charm of a lady. Her charm and energetic smile couldn't penetrate how anxious and aching he was over his seeing so many beautiful casinos lining the beaches. They were calling him, beckoning him to come and play just one, little innocent hand. He wanted to run and play so badly....but he just couldn't. If she wanted to fuck him, she could just say so. He didn't need to have all this innuendo shit and how her lifestyle didn't go with names. Lazily walking over to the register next to her, he stuck his hands in his pockets. Averting his gaze to the flickering light next to him, he sighed, "I just like to tell women so they have something to scream. Avoids awkward moments, in my opinion. "

Giving her a small smirk, he cocked a brow, "I....I don't really need a girl's name, anyway. Nicknames are always fun. You could be....Red."

Well...she wanted to fuck him. She did, and she hated the little nickname Ace had half-assed from the top of his head. Obviously, she must have been very desperate to get laid if she had wanted to fuck him. He never really found himself to be all the attractive. Sure, he kept in shape, but you are pretty much forced to when you live the life of a gambler. But he was so...fucked up and quiet. Ace detested approaching people over anything and he didn't really have the need to get laid - the only need he had was the fucking tables. If she wanted to screw him, then he wasn't going to reject her - what kind of fucking idiot would reject that? Ace didn't mind being used...because he needed a distraction right now - and he wasn't going to watch 21 again. Maybe fucking her will derail his thoughts for a little while longer...even if it meant submitting to that exceedingly irritating giggling.

Wasn't a screamer, eh? Hard to please? Every girl seemed to be like that nowadays. Well, at least she admitted to liking it rough. That's always fun. It was so obvious with the way that she played with the button of his cardigan that she wanted more than just a friendly conversation. And with how she was detailing her likes when having sex just amplified that. Ace was down for some wholesome fun....wholesome, rough fun. And it almost felt like a....challenge to him! Yes, fucking yes! A game! Like the tables, he could bet his pride and either win or lose. God, this would be the best fucking distraction. Exactly what he needed. She had come along perfectly! He was practically indebted to her for this.

Talking his steps slowly, he followed her outside. "And I never said that I wanted to fuck you -,"His lips formed into a sly smirk, grabbing onto her shoulder and turning her around. Playing with the collar of her blazer, he quickly added, "But actions do speak louder the words, right? And to be honest....I don't either of us would like it if I just left right now, alone." Really, now? They could both just be civil, right?

Sex, for him, was mostly a benefit, but today, it would be a distraction. When he had been a high roller, he had sex with anyone - women, men, hookers, the whole shebang. It didn't matter to him. It was sex. Sex was sex. People did for a short burst of ecstasy, and some people used it as their main drug. He, on the other hand, never did. So....teasing didn't really matter much to him. It reminded him of when dealers would purposely take extra time to shuffle and deal or when players would take more time than necessary to place a bet. God, everything was so much more fun when he thought of it in gambling terms. He could wait forever to have fuck someone, especially since he really didn't talk to people or go up and introduce himself. This....this was perfectly acceptable for him.

Not to mention that she had finally stopped that whole 'giggly innocent girl' routine, instead taking a darker more seductive route - which had only led to a bigger grin on his face. Sliding a hand up the side of her shirt, he let out a bitter laugh as she kissed his neck. Little did she know about how much that little card reference had made him all the more excited for their little adventures. His fingers glided over her hips, in which case he got a slight shiver out of her. Girls always forgot that men could tease, too - even if it was much more tougher to pull off. Oh, she could take his word for it - she would be fucking spent tonight. It had been.....what? A couple of months since he'd had sex? That didn't mean he forgot everything. Like every good player....he had a couple of tricks up his sleeves.

Carefully grabbing her chin, he pulled her face right below his - the height difference having to make him look down - and let out another small laugh. Lowering his voice into a whisper, he replied, "Ah, good ol' wholesome fun. So, what the fuck are we still doing here?"
