...now that you got a girl and everything. Oh. So that was why Derrick had chosen their lunch period to play "20 Questions". He wanted to know what half of King's Prep wanted to know. Koi knew the rumors. He'd heard the damn rumors himself. "I heard Kidd and Devereaux are fuckin'." "Well, I heard that Koi and Devyn are together, they're just keeping the shit secret." "There's so much mess that goes on in that crew, it's disgusting. I heard they're all fucking each other. One big fucking orgy or something..." There were more. Some were crazy. Some were true. But Koi and Devyn being...together? There would never be any truth to it. Because despite how much he cared about Devyn, how he would do anything for her, how he'd never been close to any female like he was with his bae, one fact refused to change. Koi Kidd didn't do "relationships".

"Now that I..." Koi's words turned into laughter, a smirk falling on his lips at Derrick's baiting him. If he wanted to ask what was up with Koi and Devyn, maybe he should've just asked instead of making false statements for a reaction. Of course Koi would lie through his damn teeth about what he and Devyn were anyway because it wasn't his business.

"...right. Devyn isn't my girl, Derrick. You know that." Everyone knew that. Koi didn't give a damn what the rumors were because anyone that knew the Kidd knew, at least of the surface, what Koi stood for. No ties. No titles. One girl didn't change that. No matter who she was. Because beneath the surface, there was still the fact that genetics didn't lie. He was his father. There weren't any doubts about it. And there fact also remained that he wasn't about to act like his Pops even if he was genetically fucked. No one deserved giving their heart to a fucking cheater. And Koi wasn't going to let some girl who didn't deserve it end up living the shit life his mother opened her eyes to every morning. Fuck that...

"Fuck what you heard..." Koi muttered.

Derrick didn’t laugh when Koi did. He watched. Before Devyn, even suggesting that the kid would claim one of the randoms he was with was a thumpable offense. According to the Kidd back then, he didn’t do relationships and the mere suggestion that he might have was unacceptable. Now though, Derrick was about to get away with more than suggesting it. Not that no one had before. He was sure Koi heard the rumors floating around. Not just about he and Devyn but about the crew as a whole. Everyone knew Koi had smashed Miyu already. And it wasn’t confirmed or anything, but Derrick was positive Dev had been giving it up to Dhonny that whole year she and Koi weren’t talking (why else would Dhonny be so adamant about cock-blocking Derrick). There were rumors. Some of them were true and some of them weren’t, but the only one Derrick really wanted to know about was whether or not Koi had chosen to make it official with the first girl Derrick knew he didn’t deserve.

Devyn isn’t my girl, Derrick. Hell yeah she wasn’t. Good. That was all he needed to hear. Devyn was single and the kid wasn’t checking for her as far who she was spending her time with that wasn’t him.Because she was about to start spending a hell of a lot more time with Derrick; starting with this date auction. Derrick smiled finally at Koi’s reply, nodding his understanding. “Alright, man. My mistake. I’m just letting you know what’s going around.”

Taking the last swig of his juice he shot the bottle for a three into the garbage before continuing. “I mean, I don’t know if you heard, but Taylor Westbrooks is asking around about you again.” Derrick paused for just a second, taking the time to measure that reaction too. Taylor Westbrooks was something like the team’s official groupie. In her three years at KPA she’d made her way through at least three starters a year. Koi hadn’t been chosen yet. As Fate would have it though, he had an opportunity now. An opportunity he probably hadn’t even notice because he was glued to Devyn. “When she came to me I told her I didn’t know what was up with you and Dev. But now that we’ve established you’re still out here fucking shit up, I’ll let her know.”

Yeah. Taylor would definately get the heads up that Koi was good to go. She had the potential to be the perfect dirstaction for the Kidd while Derrick went to work on Dev.

His answer to Derrick's easy question was...surprisingly to give, which was crazy because it was the same as it had always been. Love wasn't in the vocabulary. Relationship wasn't a real word. No one and nothing changed that. Not even Devyn...right? If that was truth, why did shit feel...awkward? Why did his heart start banging against his chest when Derrick even questioned him about what was going between them. There was nothing. There never HAD been. Okay, so Koi didn't know if he could call what had been happening almost five times a week "nothing". There was something, but relationship had never been the title they'd put to it. They were friends. Plain and simple. Making it complicated had taken them somewhere dangerous that Koi never wanted to see with Devyn again. She meant too much for the arguing to start again. So the questions should've been easy. There shouldn't have been any hesitation. But there was. And he couldn't help but wonder why. Why now? And why the fuck with her?

When it truly came down to it, Devyn was just...a female. And Koi had had plenty of them. KRU, AJW, KPA, MILFs...he'd had all the meaningful letter combinations. Enjoyed them too. And when he was done, he'd recycled them like the meaningless fuck sessions they always were. Dealing with Devyn was different for him. It wasn't like she had a fucking gold mine between her legs or diamonds for tits. Her sex didn't come from some crazy ass porn movie. But to Koi...he couldn't get enough of her. She was the one drug he hadn't had...and when he did, he couldn't stop taking her. She kept him lifted. Just being around her made shit better than it would ever be if there was no her. She made him smile when he didn't have shit to smile about, laugh when nothing was funny. It was like every day that he didn't see her, he held his breath. With her, he breathed. Shit he'd never felt before happened when she came around and...

That was it. She made a nigga emotional.

And that was it. That's what the fuck everyone saw when they looked at him with Devyn. When they saw them walking in the hall. When they saw them inseparable. They didn't see Koi "fuck em' and leave em" Kidd anymore. They saw some pansy ass motherfucker who was tied up in a girl he wasn't even tied to. The question was...did he care what the fuck they saw? Did he care what they thought?

"Wha...?" Koi strayed from his own thoughts, Derrick's comments moving from Devyn to another name. Taylor "fine as fuck" Westbrooks. Before Devyn came to King's, there was Taylor. She was sexy as hell and easy ass game...as long as your place on any sports team wasn't riding the bench. She only honed in on top ballers, subpar didn't catch her eye at all. Which was why, as no surprise, she was asking about Koi. He was a senior, he was lettering and even through all the drama, he'd secured his place as a starter. He'd heard that she'd been looking...for awhile. But, he just wasn't interested, he guessed? Not with Devyn taking up his time. And not with...things being the way they were between them. Untitled. Emotional. Confusing all over again. Not Koi Kidd at all.

"Taylor? Really." Koi smirked, rubbing his palm over his curls. He didn't know what to say about it. What he now knew as "old Koi" would've already sent Derrick like a little errand boy to get her number so they could stop "playin games". This Koi, though? Didn't know what the fuck he wanted to do with that information.

“Yeah, man, Really. Taylor. You surprised though? It was only a matter of time ‘til she got to you-,” he laughed. That was true. Hell Derrick was biding his time too. Taylor had a type and when word got out that she was done with Eric Johnson, they all knew she would be choosing again. That had been weeks ago though. By now, usually, she would have picked her next victim. Trouble was, she had her sights set on Koi who was way too busy with Dev. Derrick could fix that though. Koi would have all of the free time once Derrick got in good with Devyn. Not that they weren’t cool already, but they were about to be a different kind of cool. On a whole other level of cool. The kind of cool that ended in his king size.

But that meant getting rid of Koi first. Which seemed like it was going to be easy to do with Taylor in the picture. The Kidd may have been stuck on Dev now, but with a sure thing looking him in the face, Derrick was sure he’d be back to his old self just as soon as Taylor could find her way to her knees. He had never had the chance to talk to her much. Taylor more or less ignored all of the male species she didn’t see herself hitting up for money in the future. This was Derrick’s first year starting and she hadn’t made her way down her list to him yet. But the two of them did share an English class and he would use that opportunity to help his boy out. What kind of friend would he be if he let Koi pass on Taylor “fine as fuck” Westbrooks?

“Don’t worry about it, bruh. I’ll get her number so you can hit her up later.” What were friend for?

Koi chuckled as Derrick played his usual role as "wing man", telling Koi that it wasn't a surprise that Taylor had picked up Koi's scent. And to be honest, his scent was getting a whole hell of a lot stronger since she'd broken up with their teammate and was on the hunt again. Taylor was ruthless when it came to the "D" hunt, only the best survived. And it didn't take much to realize who the next "survival of the fittest" nigga was. Derrick knew it. Taylor sure as fuck knew it and Koi was betting that most of team knew it too. Everyone knew their roles. Everyone knew their place. Koi was the only player in the game that had forgotten.

"I'm not surprised. Never that." Surprised wasn't a reaction that you had when Taylor chose you. You knew what it was because you knew what she was about. Taylor was a "future" thinker. She honed in on her target and she sunk her nails into you for as long as she could. Even longer, if she knew you had real potential. And then when she sucked you dry, got into your fucking brain with what Koi heard was the "goodest good", she left her imprint and waited...like a fucking cancer or some shit. Waited for the right opportunity to come back and finish the job. And for Koi in the past? It seemed like a small price to pay for her. Now? He wasn't so sure.

Koi couldn't really take the time to think about whether he even wanted to play the "Taylor" game as Derrick was already securing a number for him...doing this thing the way it was supposed to be done. The way it would've gone if it hadn't been for Devyn running through Koi's thoughts.

"Dude, you-" Before Koi could second guess Derrick's words, he felt his pocket vibrate, his hand snapping to the the phone inside of it. He looked at the screen.

Devyn D. Busy. Can't talk now. But we... read more

"Yeah...do whatever. I gotta...take this." He said quickly before Derrick could say another word about Taylor Westbrooks.
